The band Elimi was born in 2019 among a group of friends and fellow musicians, all students of the “A. Scontrino” Conservatory of Trapani.
The sound and musical imprint recall a nu-jazz style and blends within all the influences of the members. The sicilian roots are felt, in fact the name takes its cue from the ancient people of the Elimi, inhabitants belonging to the western area of Sicily.
The band consists of Grazia Buffa on vocals, Giovanni Balistreri on tenor sax, Francesco Di Giovanni on guitar, Vito Vulpetti on electric bass, and Roberto Provenzano on drums.
In 2019, the band took part in the “International Jazz Day”, the “Festival Nazionale dei Conservatori” in Frosinone, and the “Premio Nazionale delle Arti” in Naples.
From the Neapolitan experience comes the idea to record an EP of unreleased tracks, entitled NEXT STOP, later published in February 2020 and presented with a live session at the Eliodoro Sollima Theatre in Marsala.
The EP is entirely instrumental and with a different line-up, but it is in the summer of 2020 that the band’s turning point occurs: the band members decide to add Grazia Buffa’s sumptuous “voice” to their sound.
In August 2020, they were the winners of the “Sicily Jazz Academy Contest” in Acireale.
In 2021 they performed at the “Sicily Jazz Festival” at the “Chiesa dello Spasimo” in Palermo, they took part in and won the “Tomorrow’s Jazz” – Veneto Jazz – award at the “Sale Apollinee” of the “La Fenice” Theatre in Venice.
In summer 2022 they will participate in the “16th Bucharest International JAZZ. Competition” – EUROPAfest – at “Sala Auditorium MNAR – Palatui Regal” in Bucharest, Romania.
In 2023 they won the 1st edition of “UnoJazz&Blues” at the Teatro del Casinò in Sanremo and the 1st edition of “Nu Jazz Festival” at the Auditorium Guarasci in Cosenza, winning a record production with Emme Record Label in collaboration with Tube Recording Studio.
In 2024 the band releases the new album called “MOON DROP” produced and distributed by EMME Record Label; the album opens a new chapter for the band, which pushes them to affirm their music.
In the same year, the band staged its show, inspired by the album, at several festivals, including “A Scurata” at the “Saline Genna” in Marsala, the “Fara Music Festival” at Farfa’s Abbey, and “Jazz Amore” at the “MOOD Social Club” in Rende.
In 2025, the band continues performing live, playing in Bologna, Groningen in the Netherlands, and returning to the famous “La Fenice” Theatre in Venice. During the summer, they go on a tour in western Sicily, bringing Moon Drop’s music to some of the island’s most beautiful places.
